Thanks to all who joined on March 18 to build a Platform for Visionary Transit! That call was just step one to winning funding by June 30.
Over 50 riders, advocates, and operators joined from within and beyond State College, Erie, York, Hanover, Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and the Lehigh Valley to share your stories, make connections, and help one another where to share information about transit as we fight for visionary service.
Just a few days later, Pittsburgh Regional Transit took the plunge as the first agency across the state to disclose the full breadth of its proposed service cuts and fare increases without new funding. We responded and relaunched our petition to legislators, as we prepare ourselves for every agency in PA to reveal a similar crisis.
Our small systems organizing is just beginning. Small systems calls go monthly starting in April; invite your fellow riders, operators, and advocates, as we dig deeper and show legislators that transit is essential to more than just Philly and Pittsburgh.
Want to share more media sources, political contacts, high-traffic community spaces, or community organizations in your area? Contact Connor Descheemaker and let’s make sure everyone knows transit in PA is in danger!
We need rural-to-urban solidarity. While we give dedicated time for smaller systems we need to keep joining together to share our organizing plan. Join us next week to process the cuts that loom, ratify Platform for Visionary Transit, and build a campaign plan to win.
Want to dig deeper? Join our Research and Communications committees to synthesize survey feedback, research funding solutions around the country, and build the storytelling tools that will win our campaign for funding.
